For ALL routes, 1-3, the following core language modules - 40 credits for post beginners, or 40 credits at beginners level - are compulsory at Stage I for each language followed. No more than two languages may be taken at beginners level, one of which must be Beginners French or Beginners Spanish. French (choose either Beginners or Advanced modules):
German (choose either Beginners or Advanced modules):
Italian (choose either Beginners or Advanced modules):
Spanish (choose either Beginners or Advanced Modules):
Mandarin (choose both Beginners modules):
Japanese (choose both Beginners modules):
TRANSLATION STUDIES PATHWAY: Students must take modules 09 31437 and 09 31438 PLUS two of the other modules listed below. You must take both modules in the same language:
Russian (choose either Beginners or Advanced modules):
Portuguese (choose both Beginners modules):
Catalan (students must take all modules for the Catalan Minor (40 credits):
Route 1 (One language) Students taking 120 credits in one language [Advanced French, German, Italian or Spanish]. Choose four optional modules in your chosen language (includes departmental options). 3: OPTION Route 2 (Two languages or one language plus Translation Studies) Students taking 80 credits in language A: [Advanced French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish or Beginners French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish] Choose two optional modules in language A (includes departmental options) 3: OPTION And 40 credits in language B: [Advanced French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish or Beginners Catalan, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish] You take no optional modules in language B. 3: OPTION OR 3: OPTION Students taking 80 credits in language A: [Advanced French, German, Italian or Spanish] Choose two optional modules in language A (includes departmental options) PLUS 40 credits of Translation Studies (80/40) 3: OPTION OR 3: OPTION Students taking 60 credits in language A: [Advanced French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish or Beginners French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish] Choose one optional module in language A (includes departmental options) 3: OPTION And 60 credits in language B: [Advanced French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish or Beginners, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish] Choose one optional module in language B (includes departmental options) 3: OPTION Route 3 (Three languages or two languages plus Translation Studies) Students taking 40 credits in language A, B and C. You do not choose any optional modules. 3: OPTION For ALL routes, 1-3, in addition to the core language module(s) for their chosen language(s), students choose additional Level C modules provided annually by the School of Languages, Cultures, Art History and Music, up to the relevant credit value for their respective route, to a combined total of 120 credits.
